چکیده

In the present investigation, slip-continuum and molecular (DSMC) flow models have been used to compare the drag coefficient on a confined microsphere over a range of Knudsen numbers between 0.01 and 0.4. The simulations consider a fixed Reynolds number (Re=0.125) and a range of blockage ratios from 2.0 up to 13.0. Two separate problem formulations have been studied; the first considers flow past a confined sphere moving with a constant velocity along the central axis of the pipe while the second considers Poiseuille flow past a stationary confined sphere. Finally, their combination the case of a confined sphere moving within the carrier Poiseuille flow is investigated using the DSMC method.

Steady Flow Through Modeled Glottal Constriction

The airflow in the modeled glottal constriction was simulated by the solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations for laminar flow, and the corresponding Reynolds equations for turbulent flow in generalized, nonorthogonal coordinates using a numerical method. A two-dimensional model of laryngeal flow is considered and aerodynamic properties are calculated for both laminar and turbulent steady flows...

Numerical and Experimental Investigations of Channel Flows in a Disk-Type Drag Pump

Abstract. Pumping performance of a disk-type drag pump is studied numerically and experimentally. Molecular transition and slip flows that arise in a spiral channel on the rotating disk are simulated by using particle and continuum methods. The particle approach employs the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method, and the continuum approach solves the Navier-Stokes (N-S) equations. A new DS...

A Novel Slip Correction Factor for Spherical Aerosol Particles

A 3D simulation study for an incompressible slip flow around a spherical aerosol particle was performed. The full Navier-Stokes equations were solved and the velocity jump at the gas-particle interface was treated numerically by imposition of the slip boundary condition. Analytical solution to the Stokesian slip flow past a spherical particle was used as a benchmark for code verification, and e...

A wall-function approach to incorporating Knudsen-layer effects in gas micro flow simulations

For gas flows in microfluidic configurations, the Knudsen layer close to the wall can comprise a substantial part of the entire flowfield and has a major effect on quantities such as the mass flow rate through micro devices. The Knudsen layer itself is characterized by a highly nonlinear relationship between the viscous stress and the strain rate of the gas, so even if the Navier-Stokes equatio...

This paper evaluates the suitability of a newly developed hybrid “Langmuir-Maxwell” and “LangmuirSmoluchowski” slip/jump boundary conditions in the Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations for nano/micro backward-facing step geometry flow which experiences separation and reattachment. Additionally, this paper investigates the effect of different parameters such as step pressure ratio, inflow temperature...
